HOW YOU CAN HELP

Donate |  Volunteer  |  Sponsor  |  Charitable Events

To continue fulfilling the urgent need for guide dogs, a network of volunteers and sponsors is critical. Any assistance, be it time, money, or services, is both needed and appreciated. Won't you join us in this most exciting and rewarding endeavor--providing "guiding eyes" for the blind?

Financial SupportReturn to Home Page

Our puppy raising program is supported totally by contributions. Neither Guiding Eyes nor our local program receives any government subsidies.

Non-Monetary Donations

Sponsors are needed to help defray the cost of food and equipment (e.g. preventive medications and crates). You can make a one-time donation or sponsor a puppy for the 12 to 15 months that it lives with a raiser. Food or equipment sponsors can be families, individuals, or businesses. This is an excellent opportunity for civic groups and student organizations searching to make a meaningful contribution to a local non-profit group in your community.  Your contributions will be recognized publicly on our website.

Many newspapers and printed media donate free advertising.
Restaurants and businesses host fundraising events.

Be a Puppy Raiser[Young German Shepherd laying on a deck]

The raisers perform an essential service; without raisers there would be no guide dogs.  Puppy Raisers take a pup as young as 8 weeks old and raise them for about 14-18 months.  The raisers provide the pup with the love, socialization, and basic obedience it will need to succeed in guide dog training.*

Guiding Eyes provides classes, a manual, videos and evaluation meetings to help you do it right. Puppy raisers can be families, single people, can own other pets or have no pets, and need not be experienced.

Potential puppy raisers are required to complete the pre-placement series of classes (including a home visit).    View the pre-placement checklist for more information.    Click here to view our class and event calendar.

Be a Puppy Sitter

Puppy Sitters are worth their weight in gold! A puppy sitter is an individual or family that watches a puppy when a raiser is out of town. Sitters provide an approved environment for a puppy during a limited period of time. Potential puppy sitters are required to attend a series of training classes (including a home visit).
